Finding Comfort in Psalm 23: Goodness and Mercy

Psalm 23: My excitement.

I am always excited to read the Bible because each time I do, I gain some glorious things and am thankful. This morning I woke up with this verse from Psalm 23. So I picked up the Bible and read the entire Psalm 23. I read it again slowly. I repeated the last verse again, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Then I read it out loud, and it felt like I, not David, was proclaiming and receiving the promise. I let each verse breathe, and I paused to realize that God is love. He provided every answer to every question in my life.

💬 A Gentle Plea

Friend, can I ask you something tender?
Do you believe this verse is for you—not just for David, not just for the devout, but for you?

Because if you don’t, I understand.
Life has a way of convincing us that we’re being followed by trouble, not goodness.
By regret, not mercy.
By silence, not presence.

But Psalm 23 isn’t a fairytale. It’s a map.
It begins in green pastures, walks through dark valleys, and ends with a promise: You are being followed.
Not by your past.
Not by your fears.
But by the goodness of God and the mercy that refuses to let go.

🧭 From Here Forward

So what now?
How do you live like someone being followed by favor?

  • Pause often. Look behind you—not to mourn, but to notice. Mercy leaves footprints.
  • Speak differently. Let your words reflect the pursuit of goodness, not the echo of shame.
  • Expect more. Not from people, but from God. He’s not done showing you kindness.

This isn’t just comfort—it’s a call.
Let goodness catch up to you.
Let mercy rewrite your story.
Let Psalm 23 become your rhythm, not just your reading.

🙏 Prayer

Lord, I’ve been followed by many things—some I welcomed, some I feared.
But today, I choose to believe Your goodness is behind me.
Your mercy is beside me.
And Your presence is ahead of me.
Help me walk like someone You refuse to abandon.
Amen.
