Rejecting Magic: Embracing Faith in Modern Times

Introduction: A Prompt, A Pattern, A Prayer

This morning’s prompt—“You have three magic genie wishes, what are you asking for?”—did not surprise me. It echoed a spiritual pattern I’ve been discerning. Last night, I watched a news anchor object to the Word of God being introduced in American schools. She warned that if scripture were accepted, it would alter what America stands for. She insisted schools should not become religious grounds, and people should be free to practice their beliefs, including magic, marriages, and the like.

I prayed in my heart: God, have mercy on us.
I woke up praying the same prayer.
And now this prompt arrives—not as a coincidence, but as a confirmation. It is a repeat activation of the antennae of sound mind and spiritual discernment.

Readers, Teachers, Writers—Take Heed

  • Readers, beware of what you consume. Not every tale is innocent.
  • Teachers, be reasonable in what you teach. The soul of a child is not a playground.
  • Writers, your fairy tales should not center on magical arts without explaining that they do not exist. Fiction must not become formation.

My Stand: No to Magic, Yes to the Word

I do not believe in luck.
I do not believe in fairy wishes.
I do not believe in superstition or astrological influences that cage humans.

I believe in God—the Maker of heaven and earth.
I believe in His love, proven by the offering of His Son on the tree, so I may be reconciled to Him.
I believe in the resurrection of the dead and divine provisions.
I believe in truth, not enchantment.

So when asked what I would wish for, I decline the premise. I do not wish—I believe. I do not conjure—I surrender.

Scriptural Foundation: Magic Demoted, God Exalted

Egyptian Magicians: Counterfeit Power Confronted

  • Exodus 7–8 – Pharaoh’s magicians replicated some signs, but they did not replicate gnats. They confessed: “This is the finger of God.”
Their enchantments reached a limit. God’s power did not.

God’s Clear Prohibition

  • Deuteronomy 18:10–12 – Divination, sorcery, omens, witchcraft, and consulting the dead are “detestable.”
  • Leviticus 19:31 – “Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists.”
  • Revelation 21:8 – Sorcerers are listed among those destined for judgment.

Apostolic Confrontations

  • Acts 8:9–24 – Simon the Sorcerer tried to buy the Holy Spirit’s power. Peter rebuked him.
  • Acts 13:6–11 – Elymas the sorcerer was struck blind for opposing the gospel.
  • Acts 19:19 – Believers burned their magic scrolls publicly, renouncing occult influence.

My Three Requests—Not Wishes, But Prayers

  1. That God’s will be done in my life—even when it interrupts my plans.
I do not seek shortcuts—I seek sanctification.
  2. That I may steward my testimony with boldness and humility.
Not for applause, but for the rescue of souls and the glory of God.
  3. That I may finish well—faithful, fruitful, and remembered not for magic, but for obedience.
I do not wish—I believe. I do not conjure—I surrender.

A Final Plea: Discern the Times

Jesus rebuked the religious leaders for their inability to interpret spiritual realities:

“You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.”Matthew 16:3

And the sons of Issachar were honored for their discernment:

“Of Issachar, men who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do…”1 Chronicles 12:32

These verses are not poetic flourishes—they are prophetic mandates.
To discern the times is to walk in wisdom, not wonder.
It is to recognize the spiritual climate and respond with conviction, not compromise.

Closing Benediction

This is not just about a prompt. It is about a spiritual climate.
When magic becomes normalized, truth becomes optional.
When fairy tales replace faith, we raise a generation allergic to conviction.

May the Lord open your spiritual eyes to see the truth and apply it.
May your discernment be activated.
May your allegiance be clear.

I do not wish—I believe.
