Objects I cannot Live without: A Personal Reflection

If I were prompted to write on this topic some twenty years ago, my answer would have been the four basic needs, food, shelter, clothing and water. However, the dynamism of nature, science and technology have greatly changed my perspective as to what I needed most to survive daily. Have you ever stopped to think about the objects that have become so integral to your daily life that you can’t imagine living without them? It’s a fascinating exercise to consider, especially in our modern world where technology and convenience often take center stage. As someone who is operating between the ancients and the modern, I surprise myself by what I prioritize in this post. Here are three objects that I, like many others, without argument, couldn’t live without, and perhaps you’ll find some of your own essentials reflected in these choices.

  1. Smartphone: The Ultimate Companion It’s no surprise that the smartphone tops the list for many of us. It’s more than just a device for making calls or sending texts—it’s our personal assistant, entertainment center, and connection to the world. From checking the weather and staying updated on news to keeping in touch with loved ones and capturing precious moments, my smartphone is always by my side. It’s hard to imagine a day without its many functions and the sense of security it provides. I understand that I could read whatever I want but I would need one physical paper book, the Bible.
  2. Bible: Spiritual Guidance and Comfort While I can read the Bible on my phone, having a physical copy with me is something I can’t imagine living without. It provides me with spiritual guidance, comfort, and a sense of peace, no matter where I am. The physical presence of the Bible serves as a constant reminder of my faith and values, and I find solace in its pages during times of reflection and prayer. It’s more than just a book; it’s a source of strength and inspiration.
  3.  Reusable Water Bottle: Hydration on the Go In a world where sustainability and health are becoming increasingly important, a reusable water bottle has become a staple in my daily routine. Staying hydrated is crucial for maintaining energy levels and overall well-being, and having a trusty water bottle ensures I can easily access water wherever I go. Plus, it’s an eco-friendly choice that reduces the need for single-use plastics, making it a win-win for both me and the planet.
  4.  Notebook and Pen: Capturing Thoughts and Ideas There’s something timeless about the act of putting pen to paper. Despite the digital age we live in, I find that having a notebook and pen is essential for capturing thoughts, ideas, and to-do lists. Whether it’s jotting down a sudden burst of inspiration, planning my day, or reflecting on experiences, the physical act of writing helps me process and organize my thoughts in a way that digital devices just can’t replicate. It’s a simple yet powerful tool that keeps me grounded and focused.

Reflecting on these objects, it’s clear that they each serve a unique purpose in my life, blending technology, sustainability, and creativity. They remind me of the balance between embracing modern conveniences and cherishing simple, tangible tools. If you join in this reflection today, what are a few objects you could not live without, and why do they hold such importance in your life? Take a moment to reflect and appreciate the essentials that make your days a little brighter. Appreciate God, Science and Technology, quite amazing!
